چکیده

The major problem in wormhole routing networks is related with the contention due to message blocking. Reconfigurable networks are an alternative to reduce the negative effect that congestion produces on the performance of the network. Our work is focused on dynamic reconfiguration. This technique consists basically of placing the different processors in the network in those positions which, at each computational moment and according to the existing communication pattern among them, are more adequate for the development of such computation. In a reconfigurable architecture, the clock period is determined by the transmission time across the switch. To increase this frequency the channel pipelined technique is used. In this paper we present the foundations of reconfigurable network architecture. We show the general structure of the reconfigurable systems and we indicate the characteristics of the channel pipelining technique. Finally, we evaluate the performance of a reconfigurable system.

Selective Broadcasting for Reconfigurable Optical Interconnects in DSM systems

Recent developments of coarse WDM optoelectronic components will allow for the fabrication of low cost, high-speed reconfigurable interconnection networks within large distributed sharedmemory (DSM) multiprocessor machines, by using the wavelength tunability in combination with a broadcast-and-select mechanism. We discuss in this work the advantages and the limitations they impose on network pe...

A survey of interconnection methods for reconfigurable parallel processing systems* by HOWARD

This is a survey of a variety of interconnection networks for reconfigurable parallel processing systems that have appeared in the literature. A system is reconfigurable if it may assume several architectural configurations, each of which is characterized by its own topology of activated interconnections between modules. 1s The systems whose networks will be examined include multiple-SIMD and M...

Multi-Domain WDM Network Structures for Large-Scale Reconfigurable Partitionable Parallel Computer Architecture

Multi-domain wavelength-division multiplexing (M-WDM) is proposed as a generalization of single star-coupled WDM networks. The objective is to provide scalable interconnection schemes for different parallel computer architectures that utilize the multi-channel and tunability characteristics of photonic network devices, given their existing limitations. Device tunability results in reconfigurabl...

TROUTE: A Reconfigurability-Aware FPGA Router

Since FPGAs are inherently reconfigurable, making FPGA designs generic does not reduce chip cost, as is the case for ASICs. However, designing and mapping lots of specialized FPGA designs introduces an extra EDA cost. We describe a two staged fully automatic FPGA tool flow that efficiently maps a generic HDL design to multiple specialized FPGA configurations. The mapping is fast enough to be ex...
